Bali
Bali, the jewel in the Indonesian archipeligo. Renowned for its surfing and sunsets it doesn't disappoint on the golfing front either.
Our preferred hotel in Bali is the Pan Pacific Nirwana Resort and Spa. Built on the cliff tops, overlooking Tanah Lot temple and surrounded by its own Greg Norman golf course, it is hard to imagine a more relaxing place anywhere in the world to play your golf.
Although a little secluded being about 45 mins from Kuta and 25 mins from Semanyak, the hotel does have 3 excellent restaurants, 2 bars and top notch spa. If you want to get a little more night life then Semanyak has it all. Just £10 in a taxi and you foind yourself in a peacful little town with dozens of restaurants, bars and boutiques.
The Nirwana golf course is one of a worldwide favourites. Greg made use of the rice terraces to create a visual masterpiece and coupled with the holes along the ocean, especially the par three 7th, he has succeeded in designing a course that will please all standard of golfers but will really challenge the top pros from the back tees. It doesn't matter how many times you play the course you will always want to come back for more.
There is also the Bali Country Club over at Nusa Dua, about an hour's drive away. Another very pleasant course with an undulating front 9 and a flatter back 9 running down to the beach.
Finally there is the New Kuta golf links, also about 45 mins drive from Nirwana. We haven't played the course yet but it has already hosted the Indonesian Open and a Ladies Asian Tour event. From the photos it looks well worth the trip to Kuta where you can go shopping and have a wild night out in the bars.
It is not without good reason that Bali is considered one of the world's top holiday destinations.
