Cape Town and the Garden Route
2 March - 17 March - 15 Nights
The Western Cape and Garden Route is the perfect winter getaway for golfers. Beautiful weather, breathtaking scenery, superb courses and delicious food. In 2014 we will be visiting the best hotels and courses on offer. The Vineyard in Cape Town, Arabella Western Cape & Spa and finally on to Fancourt on a fabulous 15 night tour. Although the tour is quite expensive, the best always is, South Africa is still great value for shopping and restaurants when you are there.
Cape Town itself has so much to offer. Built around Table Mountain, the V & A Waterfront development is a must visit spot as is the revolving cable car ride up the mountain. A drive down the coast to Chapman’s Peak and then across the peninsular to Simonstown to see the penguins is memorable. Or head over to Stellenbosch for some wine tasting and a superb lunch overlooking the Hottentot Holland mountains and vineyards. From our base at The Vineyard in Newlands we can easily drive down to Cape Point or visit the Kirstenbosch Gardens. If you don’t want to venture far from the hotel in the evening there are several excellent restaurants 3 mins walk away. Not to mention the hotel’s own 2 superb restaurants.
From there we must once again visit Arabella near Hermanus. There are no whales at this time of year but the golf course is one of SA’s finest and the hotel spa will put you in the perfect frame of mind for the tournament. After 3 nights there we get in our cars and drive across the Little Karoo to George
Check into Fancourt for our final 6 nights. This is truly a golfers paradise and probably one of the classiest golf resorts in the world. Superb practice facilities alongside three of the best courses in SA. We will play both the Montagu and Outeniqua twice but The Links will be offered as an optional extra round.
You can fly non stop from Heathrow to Cape Town with BA, Virgin or SAA or from MAN, BHX, LGW via Frankfurt, Paris or Dubai. All of these airlines also fly back from Johannesburg. We would recommend flying from George to JNB and then home but of course you could fly back to Cape Town or drive as most flights are early evening and you will have plenty of time.
We pick up our hire cars on arrival. If you don't wish to drive in South Africa we will have one minivan (or two if required) that will do all the driving for you at a small supplement. No need to search for the golf courses you will be delivered.
Apart from the 3hr 30 mins drive across the Little Karoo there are a couple of other shorter drives to do. Pearl Valley and Erinvale are about 50 mins from The Vineyard and the drive to Arabella will take 90 mins. The other courses are no more than 30 mins from the hotel or on site.
If you don't want to drive then we will chauffeur you.
