Phuket & Hua Hin
We will only be running one trip to Thailand in 2014. We will start with 6 nights at the fabulous Indigo Pearl on Nai Yang beach in Phuket before flying to Hua Hin for 9 nights at the Centara Railway Hotel. All the main tournament rounds will be in Hua Hin. A total of 15 nights, but of course you can extend the holiday by arriving early or staying longer. You could also choose only to come to Phuket or only Hua Hin and if you need help or advice about other destinations in Thailand or SE Asia we are the experts and will be only too happy to advise and arrange an itinerary for you. Thailand has become considerably more expensive in the last few weeks as the Pound has slipped from 50 to 44 Baht, but nonetheless it is still tremendous value for money and the service in our hotels is second to none.
Once we know when you arrive in Bangkok we will buy your internal ticket to Phuket which is included in the price of the trip. We all meet up at the Indigo Pearl on 14th January. This trip is designed for golfers and non-golfers alike as we play golf only every other day.
In Phuket we stay at the fabulous Indigo Pearl Resort which is right on the beautiful Nai Yang beach, a nature reserve, in the North part of the island. Our rooms are all Pearl Bed Suites, originally two rooms that have been knocked into one in the complete refurbishment and redesign by famous American designer Bill Benchley. Although a secluded 5 star resort with three large pools, you leave the beautiful gardens by one of two gates and you are right on the white sand beach with its plethora of restaurants and bars. Dine on fresh seafood, straight from the fishing boats, under the stars with your feet in the sand. Although it is 45 mins from Patong and Phuket towns the atmosphere in Nai Yang is the perfect antidote to a European winter. There is enough shopping in the village for the essentials and we will soon be off to Hua Hin for more important items. Best to use our time here for total relaxation.
One of the problems with Phuket is that several of the course won't allow carts but for this trip we have chosen 3 of the best that do allow them. Loch Palm, one of the original Phuket courses, Blue Canyon Lakes and finally the course that has become Phuket's best - Red Mountain. All these rounds will be team events.
From Phuket we will fly to Bangkok and then take the coach down to the seaside resort of Hua Hin for the second half of the Thailand tour. For the first time we will be staying at the Centara Railway Hotel. This beautiful old dame was the original Hua Hin hotel, opened 100 years ago to coincide with the arrival of the railway. The standard superior rooms are 37 sq mts but the bathrooms only have a rain shower. If a tub is paramont then an upgrade to a Deluxe room is necessary. Set right on the beach in beautiful gardens it is also right in town. Step out of the front into the sea and out of the back into town. Hua Hin is a bustling place with great shopping and renowned for its seafood restaurants and nightlife. Every year the town becomes more cosmopolitan though the atmosphere is still much more refined than most of Thailand's tourist spots. In the bars you can hear yourself speak and the old courtesies prevail.
Although the sea does not have the azure blue of the southern islands, Hua Hin is better in every other respect. If you have never played golf in Thailand you are in for a treat. All you do is hit the ball, your little caddy does the rest and will even mop your brow while you have a drink between holes. In Hua Hin we will be playing Sea Pines, Black Mountain, Banyan and Springfield. These courses are fantastic and carts are available everywhere.
Of course if you want more golf it is easy to arrange and excellent value. After Thailand we will be heading off to New Zealand for 23 nights.
